We are not alone

2009 July 6

when?

I live near Gulf Breeze, Florida. A small town with a big reputation as a UFO spotters’ paradise. While I have never seen nor have I been abducted by aliens, green or otherwise, I am not wholly convinced that we are alone in the universe.

Seriously, how egotistical is it of the people of Earth to believe that we inhabit the only planet capable of sustaining life in the ever-expanding and immeasurably immense universe.

On the other hand, I still have a hard time imagining little people ~ think Marvin the Martian ~ tooling around in flying saucers buzzing Earthlings or beaming them up into their space craft to perform experiments on them.

What I can imagine is that if we are to find intelligent alien life, it may be as close as our backyard, or rather in the depths of our own oceans.

While in Tennessee for a long weekend, WK and I took a side trip to the Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga. We’ve been there many times, but I never get tired of visiting. It is one of the most fascinating places I’ve seen.

There we saw what could only be described as mythical creatures. Living beings that defy the imagination.

If there is alien life, maybe this is it:
Sea dragon

Jellies

Ghosts

Sea horses

(I was shooting these photos through several inches of plexiglass and water,  and under very low light conditions… I apologize for the fuzzy images. To see larger photos, click on each image.)

If the aliens decided to visit Gulf Breeze, is it any wonder why they never came back? They probably got a speeding ticket.

More great pics as usual. The second jellyfish is related to the one’s that stung us in the water on Saturday.

BTW, saw the “Alien” billboard myself the other day and have NO clue what’s going on with that.

Didn’t you just LOVE the aquarium up there? I love zig-zagging between the two aquarium “walls”. It is where my oldest son thought a giant catfish was going to eat him when he was three as he pressed his nose up against the plexiglass.

Also, you can’t tell you were photographing through plexiglass and low light. You did well!!

Hmm, you make a very good point! Beautiful photos.

I’m not sure what I think about aliens. I know they kinda freak me out.

The second shot of your aquarium photos is incredible! That’s a jellyfish, isn’t it?

    :)

There are no blurry, just beautiful photographs. I’m especially intriqued by your first photo. Aliens? Maybe we’re the aliens to some other culture. I can’t image we’re the only beings living in this vast universe. Thanks for sharing your photos and thoughts.

Well-said! My fam and I visit your part of Florida a few times a year. I’m familiar with your alien life, at least that which can be found in the ocean. Listen, I wanted to introduce myself. I’m Aunt Julie, Veggie Mom’s SIL. Veggie is retiring today as the proprietress at Eat Your Veggies! today, and I’m stepping in. I realize I have really BIG shoes to fill, but I’m up to the challenge. Please come by and wish Veggie a fond farewell on her last post. Look forward to seeing you over at my new place!

That sea dragon is incredible! I can’t believe it’s an actual fish and not a plant! Although I’m glad there are several layers of plexiglass between it and the public. It may be beautiful but it’s also CREEPY!

So, you’ve “reached,” home, as my Texas Daddy used to say? Hmmmmmmmmm…aliens in the Sunshine State. Could it be from too much sun, a la Magda in Something About Mary? Love your snaps, BTW. Welcome back! :)

I thought the pictures looked great despite you shooting through plexiglass and using a low light setting.

Are you sure you have never been abducted by aliens? Really, don’t you have periods of ‘lost time’ happen on a regular basis? Sure they may involve Twitter and or vodka, but lost time nonetheless. Let us know if you have any nosebleeds.

No need to apologize for those pics – at all. Yummy stuff. And, like Momisodes, I had no idea y’all were a UFO hot spot down there. I wonder though – if intelligent life exists out there, somewhere, why, oh why, would they EVER come here?

I am with Lou.. why would aliens ever come here.. ha! I am a believer that we are not alone, but that is about as far as I think about it.. :)

Your photos are stunning.. Jelly Fish are a fasination of mine.. they are so beautiful but evil..
