Weekly Winners ~ Bristol, Tenn.

2009 January 4

wwfinal

I thought that since I did get that ultra fancy-shmancy, himmy-whammy camera for the birthday, I should put it too work. Most of these were taken while I was visiting my dad up in northeast Tennessee near Bristol. (Yes, I have attended a NASCAR event there ~ yes, it was deafening; yes, it was redneck central; and YES, I would go again!)

This too, is my first foray into the intimidatingly multi-talented Weekly Winners waters. I hope I am found worthy.

For the week of Dec. 28 to Jan. 3

  6. 2009 January 4

Well, ain’t you one TALENTED gal?!? That camera is amazing, but the beauty is in the eye-and the gifts-of the photographer. I’d frame Silver and Gold together…they’re money! :)

Melissa B… thank you so much. It was fun tramping ’round the woods near my dad’s looking for something different. I was lucky here.

  7. 2009 January 4

(And some of my family live in Bristol- quite the interesting place I ‘d say)

Danifred… it is a beautiful area. I wish we had had time to go up into the Smokies. I miss the mountains.

Ooh, so glad you’ve joined Weekly Winners! I’ve been doing it since the start and just love that it makes me get out and actually take pictures. These are an awesome set! I really like that chair.

Maggie… thank you! I got my new camera only a couple months ago and am still learning about what all it is capable of doing. I’m having a great time finding new things to shoot.

  14. 2009 January 4

Those are wonderful pictures! You should frame them for sure and maybe even sell them!

Mama Wheaton… thank you! Wouldn’t that be cool if I could start my own at-home business?

  15. 2009 January 4

I don’t usually comment on the Sunday Weekly Winners stuff – there’s so much stuff to look at – I just breeze through without commenting. But that shot ” in silent splendor lay” is just stunning. What an incredible piece of Art.

Lou… that means a lot to me, that you found it to be art. That made my day! Thank you!

  18. 2009 January 4

Haha, “worthy”?? Take that back, missy … Your shots are nothing short of beautiful! You have some serious talent!

Jen… thank you! I’m late getting to that party, and there are some awesome photographers over there

  19. 2009 January 4

One of these days I’m going to have to figure out how to use my fancy shmancy camera and join in on the weekly winner fun. I take REALLY crappy pictures.

Tammy… I bet you take great pictures!

  20. 2009 January 4

If I had a chair like that to ruminate on, I might never feel saddness again.
Those pictures were nothing short of perfection.

C.M… thank you so much. I’m so very glad you enjoyed these.

  21. 2009 January 4

These are spectacular! You’ve got a gift, I’d say…and is that one of those Tennessee tobacco barns? I’d buy a whole book of barn photos…just love ‘em! Hey, you know, some guy made money off old-timey bridges, why not barns?

BTW, I’ve got a Giveaway goin’ on at my place…please drop by!

Veggie… Thank you! I don’t think it was a tobacco barn. It was really too small for that. I’ll check out the giveaway tonight.

  22. 2009 January 4

Holy bejeebus. The one w/ the barn – my FAVORITE. Gor.Geous.

Angie… thanks! I love the mountains, and miss Tennessee every day.

  23. 2009 January 4

Stunning pics! My favorite is “In silent splendor lay.” Beautiful!

Terri… thank you! The photo doesn’t do the scene justice. It was a beautiful morning.

  24. 2009 January 4

I never get over seeing deer in the wild! Love the quiet place to sit and watch.

Christina… these came right up in my dad’s backyard. I think they were the same ones that ran across his driveway when we left Friday morning. My s.mom said they’ve counted as many as eight in the yard at one time.

  25. 2009 January 4

BRAVO… B.R.A.V.O!!!!! I love them Tara.. Each one of them.. the barn photo is my favorite.. I am so excited to see what else you create this year… :)

Kim… thanks! I hope to bring some more fun pictures out in the coming weeks.

  26. 2009 January 4

Welcome to the WW! It’s quite addicting, but it’s great to see ya over here!

Smoochiefrog… I know what you mean. I’ve already started thinking of where I want to go to take more photos. I even took pix of the dogs’ toys.

  30. 2009 January 5

Gorgeous. I love all of them but silent splendor is breath taking.

Tiff… thank you! It was a beautiful area where we were visiting.

  31. 2009 January 5

    I love the leaf shots!
We just don’t get those colour changes over here.

Mammabug… thanks! We don’t have those kinds of colors in Florida either. Tennessee has some of the most beautiful fall and winter foliage.

  32. 2009 January 5

    Welcome to Weekly Winners Tara!
You did a great job for your first entry, you should not worry about being worthy, because you ARE!!

Jientie… thank you so much. I enjoyed WW so far and hope to keep coming back.

First, congrats on your new camera (I had to take a peek @ the link ;) ). I just got a new camera for CHRISTmas & my b-day (which also happens to be CHRISTmas)~a Nikon D40~I told hubby that he’s covered for our anniversary on 1/31/09 as well as Mother’s Day ;) My new camera is not as spiffy as your new camera but it’s a big step up from my old camera (a Canon PowerShot S3 IS~which my 13 year old son now owns ;) ).

Second, your pics are AMAZING!!!! I ♥ ALL of them but the last 3 are my faves; w/my VERY fave being in silent splendor lay~that is TOTALLY mesmerizing! You don’t have to worry about being “worthy”~your pics are over the top! Welcome aboard Weekly Winners :)

Connie… my last camera was just a step up from a point and shoot. I love this one and still haven’t learned everything it can do. Thanks for the compliments on the photos.

  34. 2009 January 7

Nice photos! Makes me want to take a walk in the woods.

Jen… I love a nice walk in the woods. It can be so quiet and calming.
