One for youyou, one for meme…
Weasel Momma, Queen of the World of Weasels got me going on this meme. Unlike others where I get to wax poetic on the ordinariness awesomeness that is Tara, this one in contrast, is all about youyou.
The idea is to pick one of your favorite posts, take the first 10 commenters from that post and answer a few questions about them.
It has taken me a while to do this one because I got stuck pondering one of my commenters and worrying how to handle those questions. My friend Beany was a constant commenter for more than a year. Once, while forwarding her a bit of blog bling, I discovered that she had been my most prolific Internet pal. Where some others took up 5, 6, or 7 pages of comments, Beany had a full 16. At first I considered selecting a post that she had not commented on, but found it difficult to find one. Then I decided that she needed to be included.
She has been missing for almost two months now. Though I’m weakly clinging to a fading hope that she will be found, safe and sound, I still consider her a friend and want to acknowledge her support and encouragement when I first started out as a blogger.
The post I selected is ”Have permit, will drive” ~ from Aug. 3, 2008
The first ten commenters were:
1. Dingo (As I Was Saying)
2. Zoeyjane (Mommy is Moody)
3. Cyndy (Putting the Fun in DyFUNctional)
4. Angela (Never a Dull Moment)
5. Beany (So Grateful to be Mormon)
6. Laura (Lunatic Fringe)
7. Melinda (Zook Light)
8. Melissa B (Scholastic Scribe)
9. April (It’s All About Balance)
10. Krissy (Firecracker Momma)
What is your favorite post from #3’s blog? It would have to be when we were first introduced to Suzie. Cyndy and her family foster rescue doxies.
Has #10 taken any pictures that have moved you? I really liked these of Krissy’s preteen. The letter was so incredibly sweet too.
Does #6 reply to comments on her blog? Yes she does!
Which part of Blogland is #2 from? Vancouver, British Columbia… that’s in Canada.
If you could give one piece of advice to #7 what would it be? Take a breath… she is so busy, what with her two blogs.
Have you ever tried something from #9’s blog? April has hosted two Blog Blast for Education and I was fortunate enough to participate in both of them.
Has #1 blogged something that inspired you? Dingo shares my love for the canine among us and my loathing for stupid human pet dicks.
How often do you comment on #4’s blog? I try to leave a little note every time Angela puts up a new post.
Do you wait excitedly for #8 to post? She is the Scholastic Scribe after all. I always look forward to her Silly Sunday Sweepstakes caption fun.
How has #5’s blog changed your life? When I picked this post, I did not realize that Beany’s question would be this one. Because of her I learned to be more open and trusting of people I didn’t know, and to try to see the good in every situation, even when it doesn’t look like there is a bright side. Since she has been missing, there has been a tremendous outpouring of concern and the blogging community has come together in a extraordinary way to show support and try to help find out what happened to our friend. It’s still difficult. There are times when my cell phone rings, or I see the message light blinking on my phone at work and think, that has to be her. I hope her family gets closure soon either with her coming home safe and sound, or they get the answers they deserve about her disappearance.
Do you know any of your 10 bloggers in person? I have exchanged e-mails with several of them, and I spoke to Beany several times on the phone and we sent each other snail mail cards and letters. I hope I can go to BlogHer this summer where I can meet some of these others in real life. Cyndy lives near my daughter. I would love to meet her sometime while I’m visiting JM.
Do any of your 10 know each other? I think that many of them/us frequent each other’s blogs, so we know each other that way.
Out of the 10, which updates more frequently? Sometimes Melinda goes on a tangent and posts several in one day, but Melissa posts nearly everyday. I think she’s only missed a couple days in the past several months.
Which of the 10 keep you laughing? Krissy is freakin’ hilarious and Dingo keeps me in stitches too.
Which of the 10 made you cry (good or bad) tears? Zoeyjane. She writes from such a honest and often raw place.

I have Heather to thank for this meme. I love this button that goes along with it, and I’m easy if you bribe me.

The rules:
I have to list 10 honest things about myself, and then pass the award on to 7 bloggers. (Okay, I’m going to add one more honest thing… I won’t tag anyone specifically, so if you want to play along, grab this really cool sign and get all truthy with us.)
Since I’ve listed random things about myself in several other memes, I’ve kinda run out of interesting things to divulge (not that the other stuff was all that interesting, but it was most assuredly random). I asked the college kid for her opinion. She suggested a list that was related to Christmas. I liked that idea, but it’s been done. Every thing I thought of has been done. The only list I thought of that would be a little different, and tell you something about me, is to show off my list of top ten favorite SciFi movies ~ or at least what I categorize as SciFi. The honest part? Some of these are so painfully cheezy, or over the top awful, but I loved every one of them.
1. The Adventures of Buckaroo Banazi Across the 8th Dimension (answers all the questions you ever had about the hysteria caused by Orson Welles’ radio broadcast of ‘War of the Worlds’)
2. Tank Girl (Kick-ass heroine and mutant kangaroos, does not get much better)
3. Wizards (A horny wizard, a buxom and equally horny pixie, the second rise of the Nazi nation, near total world annihilation, and a fairy tale ending… AND, and, it’s animated ~ what’s not to love?)
4. The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951 version ~ Gort! Klaatu barada nikto! )
5. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (Alan Quatermain, Tom Sawyer, Capt. Nemo, The Invisible Man, Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde, and Dorian Gray ~ all literary giants, together extraordinary ~ and Sean Connery, yeah I think he’s hot.)
6. Sky Captain & the World of Tomorrow (another tough chick flick, thwarting evil robots and a mad scientist along with her dashing and heroic pilot boyfriend ~ edge of the seat excitement.)
7. Van Helsing (An epic battle between a vampire and a wolf man. There is the added bonus of Hugh Jackman half nekkid ~ ’nuff said)
8. Hellboy (the first one ~ I haven’t had a chance to see the second one yet. Who wouldn’t want to raise a demon from infancy to see him save the world ~ priceless)
9. The Omega Man (apocalyptic world destruction, Charles Heston as the last man standing, creepy half-blind flesh-eating psychopathic zombies, and a love story all in one epic movie ~ strangely reminiscent of’ ‘I am Legend’ much?)
10. Mad Max (nomadic motorcycle gangs and the downfall of social order due to oil shortages (scary or what?). We are introduced to Mel Gibson as the angst-filled widower cop who attempts to bring order while extracting revenge on the bikers who killed his wife and young son.)

Beany has been on my mind for the past couple of days. So sad. I saw an article on the Anchorage Daily News about the sudden high rate of suicide and it startled me. I wish we had the answers, and hope they come soon.
Sue… I’ve been thinking about her a lot lately too. It is still amazing how little attention her disappearance got from the media. I feel terrible for her family. I hope they get answers very soon too.
Thank you for keeping Beany in our hearts and minds. I agree about Sean Connery – hot, hot, same with Hugh Jackman = give him 3 hots. Good movie picks I think I’ve seen over half of them.
Mama Weaton… I need to have my own movie marathon. It’s been a while since I seen a couple of these.
he-he-he Tank Girl. I haven’t seen that movie in ages!
MomBabe… ‘to the Bat Tank!’ Loved this movie!
Van Helsing.. love that.. oh well I heart Hugh..
Congtrats on the award.. xo
Kim… Hugh… *sigh*
Hugh doesn’t really do much for me.
Lou… really? I fancied you a wolf man kinda guy. Growwwwwlll!
Wow…I wouldn’t have pegged you for a sci-fi freak! A pretty awesome, “out there” list, though, so Kudos to Tara! And thanks, doll, for the shout-out…and I’m in such esteemed company, too! I think about Beany almost every day, and I didn’t know her at all the way you do. We had only started corresponding the week before she went missing. I certainly enjoyed this post, though. And it’s true-I’ve only missed 4 days since I started this Blogging Janx March 31. During those dark days in August, I was in mourning for one of my former students who died suddenly. Thanks for the thoughtful consideration of my contribution to cyberspace!
Melissa B… while I enjoy a good Eudora Welty tale, or Twain, or Harper Lee… give my some Herbert, Asimov, Verne or Bradbury and I am in heaven. You’re welcome for the props. I really do enjoy the Sx3 and look forward to what photo you pick each week.
Wow… that is the COOLEST meme ever. SO many of your commenters rock my world. Perhaps I should do this one.
OHMommy… that’s what I really liked about this one too. I got to send props to a lot of friends who have been so great to me.
This *meme* is such a creative idea…so much different from others I’ve seen around the Web. And I have to say that I miss Beany, too, even though I didn’t know her at all. I’ve been over to her place several times. Her posts are so heart-warming, honest, and full of a very special voice.
Veggie… I liked that it was so different from other ‘all about me’ memes too. I like being able to show off my blog pals. Beany is one of the warmest people I have met. She always found a blessing in whatever came her way. I miss her very much.
This is a fun meme!
Since the cold weather has set in, I have had even more opportunity to vent my outrage on clueless pet owners who leave their dogs tied up outside Starbucks in the rain/snow and other pet owner misdemeanors. I’m the bane of my neighorhood.
I Googled the search for Beany the other day and came up with nothing new. It’s so very sad.
Dingo… I’m seeing that, people leaving their pets outside while they shop/eat, a lot here. I’m becoming the crazy pet lady in town too. It is sad about Beany. I signed up for Google news alerts. I don’t think there has been anything new since before Thanksgiving.
This IS a fun meme. Thank you for the shout out, and I’m sorry I’ve made you cry. Beany…I wish I’d gotten the chance to know her in the way you and some others seem to have – I used to see her comments to you and they’d make me smile cuz it was just so obvious that she CARED. I’ll keep hoping.
Zoeyjane… they weren’t all sad tears, some were because what you wrote touched my heart and I was all ‘awwww’ and ‘that is so sweet.’ Beany is a hoot. You would really like her.
Awesome meme! Dingo cracks me up, too.
I don’t know what to say about Beany. I wasn’t a regular reader of hers. I’m so sorry for you, Tara.
April… I’m so lucky that the people I’ve met here are all wonderful. I’ve been very lucky that I’ve not been targeted by a troll. (I’ve probably jinxed myself for sure now.) I just wish Beany’s family had some answers. I cannot imagine one of my peeps going missing and not knowing what happened.
That is a very cool meme, and since I haven’t seen it before, that makes it RARE! Loved it. Now I’m off to check out some of their blogs.
Deb… I had never seen anything like it before either, that’s what I liked about it too. Glad you enjoyed it.
Oh dear, I know I am responding to this late. Guess I took your advice and took a breath! Thanks for including me. I missed your blog. Great memes by the way; even though I know nada about sci fi.
Melinda… I don’t know why SciFi appeals so much to me. I guess it is the total escapism, the idea that there is something so very different ‘out there.’ Good for you taking a break! Hope your New Year is off to a great start!
