Friday Blessings ~ 6

Thanks again to Kim at Daily Blessings for hosting this six-week challenge to recognize the blessings we enjoy throughout our week. This is our final installment. Thank you for sharing these moments with me.
Tuesday, after trying for weeks to get him motivated, my boy, my newly turned 15 year old, went to the DMV, smiled pretty and picked up his driver’s permit. Every day since then he has been trying his hand at this driving thing. The blessing in all this is that he is doing really well and I’m fabulous as his instructor. There have been no tears, no raised voices, more than the average number of smiles and some truly fun moments.
WK, who among all of the peeps, is probably the most knowledgeable about cars, actually admitted that driving was harder than he thought. I’m enjoying our time together. I like that he is so excited about something and he has been more than willing to do small chores before we head out the door.
I like this idea of bartering for favors. It’s working for me.
This weekend my daughter will return to college. She has to be there a week early because of her new duties as SHO President. She has to help with the incoming students, smooze and act all official.
I am so proud of her and what she has accomplished. It has been a blessing to watch her grow up. I can see brilliant glimpses of who she will finally be, and it makes me very happy.
Even thought this incident was not a happy one, I was glad that I had the courage to take a stand and try to right a wrong. I have been working on being more assertive, not aggressive, not bitchy. I need to be more comfortable in speaking up when I think someone is wrong. To be more willing to make my opinions known and make a credible case for why I believe the way I do. This was a blessing in that I found out that I could do the right thing, even if it was intimidating.
‘Not what we say about our blessings, but how we use them, is the true measure of our thanksgiving.’ ~ W. T. Purkiser (Preacher, scholar, and author, 1910-1992)

I am so proud of you for speaking up for the poor dog. Did you learn anything else about the dog or the owner?
[Tara R.] Dingo… unfortunately no. I tried calling the deputy, but he hasn’t returned the call. I have talked with the dept. PIO and plan calling her today.
Yes, you did do the right thing. I wonder how many people saw that dog and just walked on?
[Tara R.] Lou… It was a very small dog, and if I hadn’t parked beside the truck, I probably wouldn’t have seen her. It is still sad to think that other people saw her and did nothing.
That pooor dog…I’m glad you did the right thing too. I’ve been blessed by reading you when you post these. Thank you for sharing a little about you and your blessings in life. You’re a great mom and woman, and I’m glad you’re a bloggin buddy!
[Tara R.] Kim… thanks again for hosting this, it has been lots of fun. I’m glad that we’ve gotten to know each other too.
you are awesome. and i’m glad you’re my friend!!
xoxo
[Tara R.] Mel… same here chicka! You’re way cool too.
Congrats to your family… your son for his permit, your daughter for her presidency, and you for standing up for what’s right. What a way to start your weekend!
[Tara R.] Jill… I know this weekend is going to be hard, since the college kid is leaving early for school (five hours away!) and probably won’t be home for several weeks. I had to think of some good things or I would be all weepy.
Another great list; I love your Friday posts because of them; I hope I can be as patient and quiet as you are with your son-my H. will start driving soon, too.
[Tara R.] Kori… I’ve white knuckled it a few times, and wished that my Mommy Brakes worked better, but since we are in a deserted parking lot the majority of the time, with no other cars close enough to hit, I can be all full of my self. I’ll post again once we hit the main roads. I may have a different story.
You really are an inspiration that just maybe we can get through the teen parenting years without hating each other. YOU are a daily blessing!
[Tara R.] April… Thank YOU! It’s not always unicorns and rainbows. The college kid and I had a real lulu of a fight the other day, but we were able to talk it out, a few tears, a little more yelling, and now we’re all good again. Just keep talking to them and not at them… that’s my story and I’m sticking with it.
This is so wonderful. I am so glad you’re able to have this time with your son, and teach him how to drive.
I hope your daughter has a wonderful semester.
And good for you for speaking up. I struggle with doing that as well.
[Tara R.] Sandy… I have been pleasantly surprised how well this practice driving has gone. JM is so excited about college this fall, that’s fun to see too.
Hey, blessed woman! That bartering for favors sounds pretty neat! I got Esme to bring me toilet paper in the bathroom this week – does that count as my first favor from my kid? We’re working on it.
Congrats to your daughter on her accomplishments!
[Tara R.] Mozi Mom… I’d count that… bartering has a long history of success, I take what I can get.
Life is good in Taradise! You must be bursting with pride! You done good!
[Tara R.] Bad Momma… life is good! Thanks!
Bravo Girlie! I am so inspired by you. I found myself thinking about how I don’t envy you in the learner’s permit area. I honestly failed to take note that we too will some day go through the same. (D’oh!) So, the whole bartering/driving thing is filed away for future reference. Thanks for that!
[Tara R.] Coleen… I’m glad to be of service. That day will come for you sooner than you think. Like *snap* that!
