Friday Blessings ~ 3.75

2008 July 24

Thanks again to Kim at Daily Blessings for hosting this six-week challenge to recognize the blessings we enjoy throughout our week. We are supposed to be on week four, but I'm still lagging behind.

After my last couple of posts, I needed to give thanks for some good things. This week was a week of wonderful surprises, and the best one was this little darlin.’ Let me introduce you to Sophia Renee, born July 22 at 10:37 p.m.  (She was about three weeks early, but is just perfect.)

Her mom, a new friend of mine, is a bubbly bundle of a spirit-filled woman. I have known very few people in my life with a faith as strong as hers. Sophie joins her mom and two big sisters in a home full of love and happiness.

I told you last week that my men folk were off at a men’s only weekend adventure. Well, the boy came through big time. I had fully expected to only get a cursory photo of the person I requested and it being only a blurred shot of Patrick ‘Dr. McDreamy’ Dempsey whizzing by at over 100 mph. But, instead WK surprised me with this one ~ a full-on face shot, grill glinting and all.

I was also surprised by this generous gift from my bloggy pal Beany, at So Grateful to be Mormon. Beany, or Kathleen as some of you might know her, was one of my very first blog pals. She is also the only one I have spoken on the phone with, all the way from Alaska. Can’t get much further away than that from Florida and still be in the U.S. Thank you, you are a sweetie.

After nearly two whole weeks of watching what I stuffed into my face, I was also surprised to find that not only had I lost a fair amount of weight (which Hubs said he noticed), but I was also able to return those two monstrosities that made me cry, and bought instead two new dresses, in smaller sizes thankyouverymuch! I’m blessed that my very good friend is getting married this weekend to wonderful man who so obviously loves her and her sons. It’s like a modern-day fairytale, and I get to be a witness to their happiness. As vain as it sounds, I will be able to enjoy that day so much more when I’m not kvetching over having to wear something I was not at all happy about.

(As a side note… not so much a blessing, except for those bloggers who were getting tired of my WWII fly-girl avi, I want to introduce my newest avatar. For the story behind why I picked this one, go here. If you see this film fatale showing up in your comments, it’s just me playing dress up. For giggles, I also included the progression of avatars I’ve used. I’m probably missing one or two, but these were the ones I used most often. )

(Another side note… if you check up top on my nav bar, you’ll see that I updated the ‘You Are Here’ tab. If you click on that you’ll find a lovely Google map of Florida ~ where this blog originates ~ along with a couple of local photos. You’ll also find that I am totally stealing Ashley’s idea of finding out where my visitors live. Please sign in on ‘You Are Here’ page, leaving a comment about who you are and where you’re home is. It would be a great blessing to me to see how far you all come to visit ‘little ol’ me.’ I would add one of those cool map thingys that do this for me automatically, but I am on WordPress, therefore widget disadvantaged.)

    SWOON.

I’m in Vancouver. Approximately a 20 and 35 minutes’ drive from MrLady and Huckdoll, respectively.

[Tara R.] Zoeyj… I’ll pretend you’re swooning for me and not that actor guy. Thanks for adding to my map list. That’s cool that you live that close to two such cool bloggers.

Congrats to your friend, what a beautiful baby. Congrats to you on the weight loss, what a great feeling!
I think you know that I’m your North Central Florida neighbor! My son is in P-cola right now, visiting my brother & family. =)

[Tara R.] Cyndy… a gang of us from our office went to see Sophie and her mom in the hospital. She was so little, but a little darlin’. Mom and baby were doing great and both big sisters were there too. They are a beautiful family.

Awh, you two are so CUTE (you and Beany). hehehe.

    The baby is CUTE!

    The McDreamy is CUTE! (mmm)

The weight loss isn’t cute, it’s FABULOUS!

[Tara R.] Sue… thanks, and thanks again. I wish I could have seen McD in person. The boy said he was close enough to touch him. *sigh*

Congrats on the weight loss! love the dresses, and know you will look fabulous and have a great time. I think the baby was cute, but I had to scroll through that part really fast lest I get baby hungry.

[Tara R.] Kori… I think I’m finally past that stage of my life. After holding Sophie for a while I was ready to give her back to mom. Give it another 6 or so years, and I might be ready for grandbabies, MAYBE.

    TARa,
hillbilly?? hahaha, you made me laugh out loud. nah, your accent is totally adorable. i can’t help but giggle everytime we start a phone call because of it … but that’s cause it is so cute. then i forget all about it once we get into another phone call.

glad to see you counting your blessings this week. the more you do this, the more you will notice and appreciate. i am itching to do another blessings post. i had no idea when i started my so grateful blog a year ish ago, that that would be my favorite kind of post to write.

thanks for being a sweet in my week this week. happy friday girl, beany bear ((hugs)) :)

[Tara R.] Beany… the more I do this, the easier it has been to find things to be thankful for… that has been a blessings all by itself.

  11. 2008 July 25

gorgeous baby!!! yay for not having to wear things you don’t want to wear!!! congrats on the award from kathleen!!
    xoxoxoxo

[Tara R.] Melbs… thanks so much. I do like the new dresses much better. ;)

  12. 2008 July 25

Slimmer or not – it’s the person you are inside that counts. Fortunately, that hasn’t changed.

[Tara R.] LouCeeL… that should be the case, but for so many women, me included, our outward appearence is so closely tied to how we feel about ourselves inside. It shouldn’t be that way, but often that is the reality.

  13. 2008 July 25

Aww, congrats to you on that weight loss! What a huge accomplishment :)

    Sophia is just precious!

You’ve talked to Beany? I LOVE her :)
p.s. drooling over that pic of P.D.

[Tara R.] Sandy… thanks! Yeah, Beany is a sweetie. We’ve talked a few times on the phone, she is just as nice to talk to as her blog post are to read. She is the real deal. The boy did good!

  14. 2008 July 26

Wow…that was a really nice post, Tara….lots of goodness in there.

Love your dresses and McDreamy….and the little one – she is gorgeous.

Congrats on the award…from an amazing woman to another amazing woman.

[Tara R.] Huckdoll… Sophie was way cuter in person, so tiny and pink. I can still remember my babies being that little so long ago. Thanks for the compliment, Beany is a hoot and I’m honored to be her friend.

  15. 2008 July 26

Sounds like a great week! Cute dresses and cute baby! It’s always nice to end the week on a good note!

Tara–doing some late-nite double-commenting again! I really need to take a vay-cay–but summer swim season is over (as of today!), so I’ll be able to relax a bit and blog a tad more. Love the new duds, BTW.

[Tara R.] Melissa B… ain’t it the truth? Needing a vay-cay from your vay-cay. My kids will be headed back to school in just a couple of weeks. As much as I look forward to summer, I love it once fall arrives again.

  19. 2008 July 28

You had much to be grateful for. What awesome blessings. I’d have to say that McDreamy would rank right up on top as a blessing in my book too!

[Tara R.] Terri… since starting this meme, it’s been easier each week to make a list. Hmmm…. maybe that was Kim’s goal to begin with, eh?

  20. 2008 July 29

Great post. I just got back from vaca and am catching up. Thank you so much for keeping at it. I’m loving seeing everyone’s blessings post grow and grow. It’s amazing what we find we’re blessed with when we open our eyes and heart, huh??

[Tara R.] Kim… I have really enjoyed playing along with this challenge. It has definitely gotten easier making my list with each passing week.
