Friday Blessings ~ 2.5

2008 July 18

Thanks again to Kim at Daily Blessings for hosting this six-week challenge to recognize the blessings we enjoy throughout our week. (I missed the first week, so I’m playing catch-up)

My mall melt down on Sunday, was actually a blessing in disguise. It was the push I needed to finally face the fact that as I age, I can no longer eat whatever I want and not have to face the consequences. Since Sunday I have been following a meal plan that is more in line with what I should be eating and in the ensuing five days, I have dropped five pounds. That is a blessing!

I also have to acknowledge the overwhelming outpouring of support from my blog pals. You all are so incredibly understanding and thoughtful. Your words of encouragement were unmistakably a blessing. Thank you all!

Today Hubs and WK are headed to Birmingham and Barber’s Motorsports Park. For the third consecutive year my men folk will be attending the Porsche Series races there. Hubs and WK have something that they share, that is unique to them. I stay home on race weekends so that they can enjoy being men, and being father and son.

I’m thankful knowing that Hubs and our son are bonding and that I can have a chicks’ weekend with JM. Dr. McDreamy, Patrick Dempsey, is a confirmed driver for the race. Hopefully, like JM sends me photos of Dave Matthews, I can get pix of this delicious piece of eye candy from WK.

I’m thankful that, on his own, my long-haired, hippy kid came to me to say he wanted to get his hair cut. Thursday evening, sitting in a salon chair, WK had six inches of his golden locks snipped from his head. I was going to post a before/after shot, but I guess he is over the whole blog thing and asked that I not take photos. Just gotta take my word for it… he is one handsome devil. (He was before too, but there is no way he’ll be mistaken for a girl now.)

I’m thankful for another bloggy friend, a sista who truly rawks… LaskiGal over From the Cheap Seats gave this to me. LaskiGal is currently on hiatus from her teaching job to be a Full-Time, Stay-at-home-Mom to simply scrumptious J. Check out her fabulous photos and her wonderful stories about her little man.

I’m thankful for Melody at Slurping Life who let me know about 5 Minutes for Special Needs. A new Web site for parents with special needs children. I’m grateful for this resource and place where I can go to support and get support from other parents with fabulous children, but who may have a few extra hurdles to clear during their young lives. Please stop by and share Melody’s heartfelt story of her amazing sons.

As much as I complain about the tourists, and the traffic and the hurricanes… I am still very blessed to live in such a beautiful place.

Cool pics – wish I was there! Hope you and JM have fun on your girls weekend – give her my love. Send us pics of WK when you can with his new do (my one and only is cutting her beautiful blonde hair for BANGS). How much do you want to bet she decides within a week she doesn’t like it????

[Tara R.] Dina… if FIL does stop by on his way home, he is going to be shocked. The change is huge. You can see his face! H will look cute with bangs, but she’s a girl… she will change her mind a million times about her hair.

Another great list, and a good reminder. And I love Patrick Dempsey; I am pretty sure if he met me, he would SO want me to be his wife. Or sex slave. Or SOMETHING!

[Tara R.] Kori… if he ever met you, he would definitely want you! :D
JM has threatened her brother’s life he doesn’t bring her back a photo. He was there a couple years ago too, and WK could have gotten her an autograph and he refused to wait in line. He better offer up something this time.

Awwww… What a great entry for me to come back to! You sound wonderful. I have missed you!

I am glad to be back although I am still working on getting up enough speed to just catch up. This new marriage/life relocation feels a lot like having a newborn all over again and I can’t get enough sleep.

I look forward to spending more time with you!! Thanks for the welcome back. :o )

[Tara R] Colleen… I kept peeking back, trying to check up on you. I was so glad to see you posting again. Yea! I should add that to my ‘blessings!’

Ah, aging. Sometimes I have to wonder who that fot old stranger is, in the mirror.

[Tara R.] lceel… getting old is not for wimps!

Tara: (a) Good for you! (b) Hope The Guys have fun! (c) Love the slide show–you really live in a beautiful place! (d) Likewise, I’m enamored of The Rockin Kitty! (e) All of the above. :)

[Tara R.] Melissa B… thanks! My men folk no doubt will have a blast, and I hope me and my mini chick do too. I really do live in paradise.

  6. 2008 July 18

Have a wonderful chicks weekend! I hope you get that shot of Patrick Dempsey, and if you do, could you please forward a copy to me?

[Tara R.] Terri… thanks! If I get that shot of Dr. McD… I’ll post it huge here, in all it’s glory! :D

OMG your pictures are beautiful!! WOW. I hope on my vacation mine will at least be half as good. WOW..

[Tara R.] MP… the Gulf Coast of Florida is truly gorgeous. I hope your vacation is fabulous, it sounds like huge fun.

Love the slideshow! My SIL is having a go-round with her Soccer Boy over his golden locks. I’ll bet WK is a handsome guy!

[Tara R.] Veggie… with the boy I just picked my battles. Hair grows, it gets cut. He didn’t want to get anything pierced or dye his hair unnatural colors. Our deal was he had to keep it clean and brushed. He did that, so I left it alone. He’s adorable.

  9. 2008 July 18

I’m thankful for you! Thank you for such a sweet shout out about 5MFSN and your kind words about me and the boys.

I had to smile about your hippie kid deciding to get a haircut because I have one wanna be hippie who just announced he will no longer be getting haircuts. :D

    Enjoy your weekend!

[Tara R.] Melody… You are so welcome! The hippy kid thing really made me laugh. Like I told Veggie, we made a deal about his hair, same one I made his sister when she wanted to let her’s grow long. When she had to brush her own hair out, or let me do it, having long hair was no longer fun. I think with the boy, the summer heat was getting to him.

Congrats on the weight loss!! I’m so proud of you!!

[Tara R.] Ms. H… you too! By time school comes back around you’ll be the hot teacher! ;)

  11. 2008 July 18

Yay for the weight loss! That is a great accomplishment. I hope to follow in your footsteps :)

    Your pics are truly breathtaking.

ps. Your McDreamy kept me TOTALLY distracted through this post! :)

[Tara R.] Sandy… thanks, I just hope I can keep it up. The photos don’t do justice to how pretty the beaches here really are. JM will hurt her little brother if he goes to another race and doesn’t bring back pix of McDreamy.

    hi TARa,
glad you are counting your blessings. thanks for the phone call this week. you are awesome. night night, beany :)

PS. glad you and your office enjoyed laughing so hard today (to tears). that was a riot.

[Tara R.] Beany… we were all in stitches. We couldn’t decide if that last one was real or not too. I think we all knew someone who would have dressed like any one of them.

  13. 2008 July 19

I’m grateful for you, Tara! I love stopping by and getting a taste of some grounded reality.

[Tara R] April… wow! Thanks! That is so nice. I’m glad you enjoy hanging out over here, I feel the same way about you.

  14. 2008 July 19

Sounds like an awsome week! Glad you turned your Mall Meltdown into a positive. Hope you enjoying your “day off”. I had my “me” time last night when the boys went to a ball game!

[Tara R.] Bad Momma… I could either learn from that disaster, or wallow in it. I wanted to learn, so I did something about it… finally. I’m planning another cooking weekend, but this time preparing meals that fit into my life better. I love my peeps, but sometimes it nice to just do ‘me’ stuff too.

[Tara R.] Beany… haven’t laughed that hard in a long time. It was contagious, someone would start laughing and someone else would yell… ‘which one are you looking at?’ We ended up laughing at everyone else laughing. Thanks again for sharing!
