A week of blessings
Kim at Daily Blessings sent out a challenge, one that I wanted to participate in if only to force myself to re-evaluate how I look at life.
She asked that we published a post of our weekly blessings each Friday, instead of complaining about how horrible traffic is, or how difficult work has gotten, or how ‘teenagery’ my teenagers have been. It wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be. You really do have to change your whole mindset from Curmudgeon to Optimist.
It is appropriate then that I start off my list of blessings with a little something Kim sent me. Thank you, Kim. This really was a wonderful surprise and truly a blessing.
Another unexpected blessing came from Anna, over at Word from the Wise. She sent me this beautiful plaque to hang on my wall. Isn’t it lovely. Considering who else she has bestowed this on, I’m more than grateful to her. Thank you so much, Anna.
I am also thankful that my job has gone frighteningly well this week. A major project that had been stymied has suddenly taken off, unexpected assistance has been given from the most unlikely of sources, and we can finally move forward to completion. (Sorry for being so circumspect, but I need to be a little obtuse to protect my company ~ and I don’t want to be pink slipped for talking about work on my blog.)
I am thankful that my daughter is safe at home after a long road trip with her friends to a Dave Matthews’ concert in Tampa. I could only be more thankful if I had been in the audience too, but she did bring some pictures back for me. I was going to post some here, but she said she was refusing to feed my blogging jones and would send them to me when she was ready. (If she finally gets out of bed and emails them to me I’ll post them later.)
Hey Mom,
Here’s your picture… you can stop bugging me!! haha : )JM

Dave Matthews Band, Tampa '08
Kids! (I am thankful everyday that I get to be their mom.)
I am thankful that my 15yo son has been taking on a lot more responsibility and managing very well. Hubs and I have been able to let him loose to do more things a teenager should be able to do and not be constantly worried about him. Could this be the light at the end of the tunnel we have been waiting on… I’m going to wait for a while yet to call that one.
I’m also thankful that small, simple things can still make me feel like a little kid. I love riding through a car wash.

Congrats on your awards..you of course totally deserve them..A
They don’t have any car washes in my town that let me drive through anymore.. I have asked many time just so my boys can experience it.. love the slide show!!
[Tara R.] Kim… this one is next door to my office. It’s silly, but some days it’s just what I need to cheer myself up.
What a great post. You’re truly blessed with your family! Thanks so much for participating in this.
[Tara R.] Kim… I have two of the best kids ever, despite all our ups and downs. They really are a blessing. Thanks again for starting this.
Congratulations on your awards. And well done – seeing the positive side of what you have and where you are. Well done.
[Tara R.] Iceel… funny thing, when you actually stop to think about it, we all do have a lot to be thankful for.
I can’t think of anyone more deserving of the awards, and I love your list of blessings.
[Tara R.] Kori… thank you. As much as I complain about some of the things my kids do, they really are great kids.
Oh, I love car washes toooooo!
[Tara R.] Eve… they are sooo coool!
congratulations on awards that are much deserved!!
what a great idea…a weekly affirmation. everyone needs to do this…especially in these trying times…find things that we are grateful for!!
xoxo
[Tara R.] Melbs… *blushes* thanks! This was fun to do… it didn’t take long to make a list.
Slightly, but not very, related – I used to love driving through car washes too.
When I moved to Holland I didn’t know that you don’t sit in your car.
You park the car in the machine, get out and put the token in the slot outside.
The first time I did this I decided to go back into the car after putting in the token, except there wasnt enough time and my car got washed, with the driver’s door ajar.
3 days it took the drivers seat to dry out.
[Tara R.] xbox… gotta stop reading at work. Uncontrollable laughter for no apparent reason, raises a few eyebrows. I love your stories.
You’re very welcome! You more than deserve that award!
[Tara R.] Anna… thank you so much! To be included with the others is quite an honor!
It seems as though many of us are on the same thought page these days
. I just started a Friday meme that I call My Joyful Journal (grin).
[Tara R.] Danielle… maybe we all need to stop more often and take stock of what we have and not what we don’t have. I want to check out your post too.
I’m thankful my son and I like the same music as well. In August we go to a festival featuring the Foo Fighters and my favorite, Wilco.
Nice post!
[Tara R.] Meg… I really like the Foo Fighters too. Sounds like a fun concert, hope you both have a great time.
I am grateful for your daughter, a DMB fan, who shares pictures with her mom. I’m thankful for her mom, too. Yes, you!! XXOO
[Tara R] Secret Agent… ain’t she the best! Even if you makes we wait… she’ll get hers. You’re on my blessings list too.
What a joy to start discovering the people participating in the weekly blessings posts – it is so neat to read what blessed different people – kind of adds to my own blessings to read yours!
[Tara R.] Trysh… thanks for stopping by… you had an incredible list of blessings. This challenge is going to be very good for me.
I think it would be possible for you to be curmudgeonly optimistic, wouldn’t it? Thanks so much for the upbeat post! So often we in the Blogosphere appeal to our cynical sides, oui? BTW, don’t forget my Silly Sunday Sweepstakes tomorrow–I’ve got a pretty funny snap this week! And, Tara–I’m still looking for a mini-review for Take Another Look Thursday. Don’t forget!
[Tara R.] Melissa B… I like to think I’m C.O. I look forward to the SSS and I am trying to pick which book I want to review… promise Teach I’ll turn it in soon! Promise!
you made a blessings post. good for you, beany
[Tara R.] Beany… I needed to focus on good stuff for a change and not just on what is going wrong. Thanks!
It is nice to take a moment and appreciate what we have. Congrats on all the things going well in your life right now!
[Tara R.] April… I really do have a lot of good things going on right now, but lately I have been focusing too much on the negative. This was a needed exercise for me this week.
Congrats on your super awards! Hey, gal–I’ve got a photo posted today that was taken in YOUR neck of the woods, I do believe! I, too, feel blessed for so many things, including my family and my health. Have a lovely day!
[Tara R.] Veggie! … Port St. Joe is just down the road. It’s is absolutely beautiful and far away from the maddening crowd. The area is a lovely vacation spot. Hope you and yours are having a great reunion!
I loved reading these! Seeing what makes other people feel blessed really helps me notice more of the good things in my own life. And I can totally relate to worries about the kids while they are away and out on the road, and wondering if they will ever take on some responsibility.
Thanks for stopping by my blog. I’m so glad your visit gave me the chance to find yours!
[Tara R.] Terri… we probably have kids close to the same age. I don’t get to see much of my college kid either, even if she is home for the summer. I’ll be back to your blog now that I know where you are.
Sounds like a great week. Love the car wash; especially as a child! Probably long overdue for one.
Glad you are participating, too!
Though it kind of ruins my schtick of being a “Bad Momma”…..
[Tara R.] B.M… I won’t give you away. Your secret is safe.
Nice post, I love the Car Wash slide show!
[Tara R.] Cyndy… it’s really kinda peaceful sitting there surrounding by all that water. And I don’t have to do the work.
