Random Wednesday – guardians

Yeah, I have two of the most fierce guard dogs you could ever imagine. Swift, strong, uber protective. Don’t even think about sneaking into my yard or threatening my children. Burglars beware, bad guys just move on ~ Maxx and Hershey the Lab wonder twins are on duty.
No, really they are much more vicious than they let on. This is just their cover, they are truly dogs of distinction, real canine warriors.

‘We long for an affection altogether ignorant of our faults. Heaven has accorded this to us in the uncritical canine attachment.’ ~ George Eliot (Mary Anne Evans, English novelist, 1819-1880)
‘Happiness is a warm puppy.’ ~ Charles M. Schulz (American cartoonist, creator of ‘Peanuts,’ 1922-2000)
‘Heaven goes by favor. If it went by merit, you would stay out and your dog would go in.’ ~ Mark Twain (Samuel Langhorne Clemens, American humorist, satirist, lecturer and writer, 1835-1910)

And that photo is how you KNOW they’re good guard dogs: they’re saving up their energy for something really important. Intruders: be afraid! Be very afraid!
My dog takes up exactly that amount of space all day long too. But just let a suspicious van pull into our driveway at 1am and discharge a couple of high school kids bent on taking more from the place they smash-and-grabbed the night before (while we were still on vacation) — and that dog WILL let those punks know who’s boss.
[Tara R.] Martini… you were broken into?!?!? That really SUCKS! Loooooose the hounds!
I have two beasts too that like to walk the walk and bark the bark but they are really nice dogs…..
unless you try to hurt one of us….and then they are ball biters. I love my mutts and I want that sign.
[Tara R.] Krissy… The Girls really are the same way. They are very friendly, but when they think one of us is in danger, they are teeth and growls. They are awesome.
Just what is it they’ll do to a potential burglar? Drown him in slobbers?
[Tara R.] LouCeel… kill ‘em with kindness? Thanks for stopping by!
I absolutely LOVE this post!
[Tara R.] Stacey… if anyone understands how fab guard dogs are you would. I still remember that wonderful photo you posted… priceless.
I laughed quite hard at the first photo… and even louder when I saw the second.
As an owner of a “fierce” labrador retriever myself, I know first hand that the only damage they’ll do is irritating the skin when they lick you to death…
They sure are cute!
[Tara R.] Jill… Thanks! The first time I saw the sign, I had to get it. It was just so funny. Three seconds sure, to welcome you into the yard.
hi TARa! our doggies are soooo affectionate with us, but boy doggie, they let you know if ANYONE gets close to the front door or anything. yippers! but we have never been broken into either. aren’t dogs better than having a gun?
happiness IS a warm puppy. so true. i just cuddled and kissed my luka pup just cause of your post. he was sleep and he ate up the affection. his little body was so cuddly, warm, oozing with the perfect body heat.
hey, i tried it yesterday and thought of you. i tried to see how long i could stand to be in my truck without the windows down. not long at all! poor creatures that suffer with that. BUT on the flip side, i went to the store after work yesterday (and it is NOT hot here by any means) … but the car near me had two BIG MEAN dogs in the back seat. the windows were open practically ALL the way. everytime someone walked by, the two dogs acted like they wanted to kill someone. and they looked like they could have easily jumped right out of the windows and done so. that was extreme. they shouldn’t have been there scaring the tar out of people who were just trying to walk to return to their own cars.
anyway night night TARa.
warm puppy snuggles,
beany baby
[Tara R.] Beany… I am constantly stunned by what seemingly normal people will put their pets through, and their small children… it’s cruel.
I could not agree with your second quote more!
I was just thinking tonight how much I prefer the company of dogs to most humans, while reading about people DEBARKING their dogs. GRRR!
[Tara R.] Cyndy… debarking a dog… you can do that? Legally? That’s horrible!
Haha, reminds me of my dogs back home. Always sleeping!
[Tara R.] Anna… ours are always sleeping too, unless they hear my ‘Swishy Pants.’
Our lab, Phoebe, likes to lay wherever it is that you are walking. When I tell her to move, guess where she goes? Thats right, to the NEXT place I was going to walk. (Sigh) I’ll give her a break, though, we did give her 2 beagle puppies for Christmas that she didn’t ask for.
[Tara R.] Nuke… our dogs don’t do that, but our cat does. Lies right behind our feet if we’re standing somewhere. She thinks she’s ‘human tipping.’
My chocolate Lab is named Hershey too! Cool! Mine will be 16 years old this fall, and is almost ready to go to doggie heaven. That will be a very sad day since I’ve had him since he was 10 weeks old!
[Tara R.] Kim… Hershey is our Lab baby, she’s only 3. Maxx is close to 13 and going white around her muzzle. I hope your Hershey still has more wonderful years left.
I sure hope one of our puppies grows up to be fierce like that!
[Tara R.] Kori… that my Girls… a couple of Kujos.
We are looking for a furbaby-so that clenches is. Fierce Labs it is. lol
[Tara R.] Traci… Labs are the way to go. They also make good door stops.
I knew I liked you before but now that I know you have labs I think this relationship may have hit a new level. I LOVE LABS!!!! I have 2 ferocious labs and let me tell you, death by licking is what they specialize in. They sounds like vicious killers when the bark and I kind of like that. My yellow lab (she’s the alpha) might kick someone’s ass if they come in the house in the middle of the night but more likely she’ll just run to us but at least we’ll have warning, that is if they decided to stay and rob us after they hear her vicious growls at the door.
Your two labs are adorable, looking at the picture makes me want to pet them, damn you for being so far away. Give them a big hug from me.
[Tara R.] Alllie… these two would most likely thump a burglar to death with their tails. Not the sharpest tools in the shed, but they are the best dogs in the world.
Nothing like a good dog. I must admit I slightly distrust those who refuse to ever own a dog.
[Tara R.] T.T… seriously, how can you trust anyone who doesn’t like dogs. Heathens!
Hey…you must have snuck into my house to snap those pics. I have two guard dogs; I’m just not sure what they are guarding. Last night, I had to actually push one of my dogs off of my bed so I could get in; and he responded with a big “Hmph.” as he walked out of my room.
[Tara R.] Lorie… you can get your dogs out of your room? I can only wish to have my bed back.
Love the dogs but I want/need that sign!
[Tara R.] Dina… the sign IS great. Not necessarily true, but great.
That picture makes me want to curl up and take a nap!!
[Tara R.] Kim… they will do that to you… don’t make eye contact or you’re doomed.
